The True Christian Life...
Honest doesn’t really care about anyone but herself, I guess that’s why her name is HONEST, I say so based on how she bluntly spills out selfish words like “What does that have to do with me?” “I don’t care” etc…………… She doesn’t even realize how hurting those words sound to other people, all she’s mindful of is herself and that’s all. I wish a situation could just arise to teach her a strong lesson, Remi thought.
Eh eh sister sister, Temi shouted from the compound as she walked towards Remi seated in the veranda. Why are you talking alone?
Wo! It’s nothing new jare, Remi responded. It’s what we all know, Honest and her rude behavior keeps putting me off.
Ooo GOD! Sis I’ve told you severally to ignore this girl ehn, why are you always carrying her matter on your head? Temi shouted.
Temi, try to understand me, Remi said. Truth be told, sometimes I just want to ignore Honest and pretend like I don’t know her but at the same time; I find it so hard to do. My greatest fear is, if she continues this way, the repercussion might be too big for her to bear, that is why I want her to come back to her senses and stop this selfish attitude of hers…
My sister, sense will not just jump on anybody’s head o and even if it would, Aunt honest head is the last it would think of, Temi replied sarcastically.
Common babe, don’t talk like that joor. Oya, let’s go inside, Remi said as she pulled her sister into her room.
EXPOSITION
Remi can be likened to a person who seeks out the best in people and does not react to them based on the kind of attitude they display, just like the Corinthians in the scripture, they were Christians but still lacked in the knowledge of Christ. They could speak in tongues but the act of love was missing in them, they were involved in sexual sins, spiritual pride and other bad acts. Despite this, Paul took it upon himself to write to them over and over again, that they may improve and be better in attitude, words and their relationship with God, in his final words to them in 2Corinthians 13vs5 and verses 11-14, he clearly spelt out the instructions they should adhere to. He was interested in them being a better person in Christ, he didn’t judge them neither did he condemn them; this is an attribute of A True Christian Life. Another example is “Onesimus” in the book of Philemon, you’d see how Apostle Paul also stood up for him despite his awful act towards his master and he took him in willingly and taught him the right thing to do. Also, another example is God to man, despite man’s atrocities and behavior worthy of death, God took it upon himself to sacrifice His son that we may be saved and have access to a better life(John 3:16-17).
This is how Christ expects us to live; the scripture says “No one has ever seen God. But the one and only son is himself God and is near the Father’s heart and He is the One that reveals the Father to us (John 1:18)”. Also, no one has seen Christ then it’s expected that we who are called Christians to reveal Christ to those out there, in words and actions through the lenses of Love, Compassion, Giving, etc………
Honest is not the only one with bad behaviors that put us off, we all have one person or the other with an unglued behavior or character. How do you respond to such people? Do you condemn, hate, resent or insult them? Look at Jesus our perfect example, the scripture says “why we were yet sinners (with awful characters and ways) He died for us (Romans 5:5ff), therefore show genuine love to people and through this their soul can be won to the Kingdom. God has blessed you!!!
